CHESHIRE - Opponents to a proposed utility merger told board members Monday night that the move would eliminate workers and force the combining of union and nonunion employees, with no guarantee of lower utility bills.

The merger would combine the 66-year-old Blachly-Lane Electric Cooperative and its 2,800 members with Lane Electric Cooperative, which boasts 9,000 members.
