Gordon Corner
A memorial service will be held Nov. 1 for Gordon Leslie Corner of Eugene, who died Oct. 28 of age-related causes. He was 83.
Corner was born Dec. 6, 1919, in Garfield, Wash., to George and Ada Carter Corner.
During World War II, he served in the Army Engineers.
He earned a master's degree in education.
Corner lived in the Eugene area for most of his life. A elementary school principal, he worked at Condon School, at Bailey Hill School and at River Road School. He was the state representative to the National Elementary Principals Association and served several years on a state committee formed to screen proposals for innovative changes in curriculum at the elementary school level.
His first wife, Eleanor Hatch Corner, died Oct. 8, 1985. He married Bernice Gibson on the McKenzie River in 1987.
Corner was a Sunday School teacher and superintendant for more than 21 years. He belonged to the Kiwanis Club for 40 years, serving as president and attaining a perfect attendance record of more than 23 years. Corner was a charter member of the Emerald Empire Club, belonged to Garden Way Church and sang with the Eugene Gleemen.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Loren of Eugene; a daughter, Margaret Schreiber of Sun River; a sister, Mary Heilmeyer of Baker City; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchil- dren.
Saturday's service will be at 2 p.m. at Garden Way Church. Major Family Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kiwanis Club or to the Cascade-Coast Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
