County commissioners Peter Sorenson and Bill Dwyer each took a turn on the political soapbox this week, sharing their concerns about the county's continued military involvement in Iraq and its effect on the families of Oregon's National Guard troops.

Sorenson went first, noting that the order of the commissioners' agenda would have to be changed to accommodate elections manager Annette Newingham, who wanted to attend a Wednesday morning send-off ceremony for 700 soldiers in the Oregon Army National Guard - including her son - who headed out later in the day for training in Texas before shipping out to Iraq in March.
