When Eugene police breathe deeply these days, they smell riot in the air.

"We haven't had our riot for the fall yet," Capt. Steve Swenson said Thursday. "This is likely to be the weekend if it's going to happen."

It's Friday, and it's Halloween. Police say that means trouble.

This year they won't be caught off-guard should holiday parties swell out of control and spill into the streets.
