The Oregon men's cross country team is reloading. The Duck women are regrouping.

For the UO men, coached for the fifth season by Martin Smith, it is adjusting to life without Jason Hartmann - a three-time cross country all-American.

For the UO women's team, coached by Marnie Mason in her first year, it is adjusting to a whole new way of life - as part of the combined men's and women's Oregon track and field/cross country programs and under a new coach for the first time in nearly three decades.

"We are starting from scratch," said Magdalena Sandoval, a senior and No. 1 runner on the UO women's team. "We are doing the best we can with the athletes we have. We're just trying to get the ball rolling."
