Enrollment at the University of Oregon fell below projections this year as the effects of higher tuition and reduced state support began to take a toll on student numbers.

The UO expects to have 20,033 students when final fourth-week enrollment figures are reported next week. That's a few less than the 20,044 who enrolled last year and marks the first time in three years that the university has drawn fewer students than the previous year.
