Triple-digit temperatures scorched Eugene and Springfield again Tuesday, shattering weather records and making life miserable for people without air conditioning.

It was as hot here - 101 degrees at 5 p.m. at the Eugene Airport - as it was in Phoenix, Ariz., also 101.

Eugene broke the previous high for the date: 96 in 1990. Monday's high of 100 broke a 43-year-old record by 1 degree.

Temperatures are expected to cool slightly today, but record or near-record highs are expected across the state, the National Weather Service said. Eugene should reach into the high 90s today before cooling slightly to near 90 on Thursday.

Just be glad you're not in Pendleton, where the forecast calls for 107 today.
