SALEM - If Oregon legislators harbored any sense of shame or urgency Friday at setting a new record for the longest session in state history, they kept it to themselves.

If anything, lawmakers from both parties and chambers appeared to share in a defensiveness about meeting for the 208th day in session without a budget deal in place.

The bipartisan line from lawmakers who remained entrenched in the Capitol: The session's marathon length isn't as significant as the final decisions on spending levels for education, human services and public safety, and the resulting cost to taxpayers....
