ASHLAND - One of the key characters in John O'Keeffe's ``Wild Oats'' is Jack Rover, a ``strolling player'' who's infatuated with William Shakespeare and drops lines from his plays into real-life situations, with great comic effect.

But this rollicking comedy owes much more to Shakespeare than this running gag. Although first staged in the late 18th century, well after the Bard shuffled off, "Wild Oats" is very Shakespearean in structure, style and sentiment, making it a perfect fit for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's outdoor Elizabethan Stage.
