Talk about a toll: Seattle resident Loren Kinman, fed up with people cutting across his yard to reach a local fireworks show, set up a unique sidewalk poll. Before passing through, folks had to pass his "Constitution 101' pop quiz.

If people were going to trample his grass, he figured, they ought to at least know the inalienable rights they were celebrating.

We don't control any shortcuts to local pyrotechnic displays.

We can only invite you to voluntarily test your knowledge of the history and freedoms feted on this holiday. It seems timely, for two reasons: Most Americans say their Constitutional knowledge is a bit rusty, and some of our freedoms have changed since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

So, please - do try this at home before venturing out to celebrate Independence Day.
