WHILE offering a choice of train and train equipment maintenance support packages, Bombardier's preferred approach is full fleet maintenance, which represents the most far-reaching solution in the portfolio. "We maintain more than 7300 trains daily across the world, and it clearly makes sense to maximise and cross-filter the knowledge we acquire through this involvement," said Mr Andrew Lezala, president of Bombardier Transportation Services.

Sub-contracting full fleet management may be seen as a risky solution from the operator's perspective, but Bombardier is happy to embrace both responsibility and risk in technical and financial terms. "On balance, we perceive that this relationship offers most benefits for both parties. We fully respect each customer's choice in how it wishes to manage its maintenance activities, but we can contribute most when we have overall responsibility for the fleet.
