CLINTON -- On November 29th, watercolor artist Wyatt Waters will show Mississippi what he's been up to for the past year with the grand opening of a new gallery at 307 Jefferson Street in Olde Towne Clinton.

His first show in four years will feature original paintings of his recent Caribbean art cruise, his trips to Oxford to complete his self-published "An Oxford Sketchbook" and illustrations of his latest collaboration with editors Judy Tucker and Charline McCord, titled "A Very Southern Christmas."

The gallery, located in the former Laney's Jewelry building, opened four months ago and gives Waters more room for showings and exhibits. The 1,100-square-foot space was remodeled into a showroom, work area and gift shop location dedicated to Waters' work. The works aren't priced on the showroom floor, and high-pressure sales tactics aren't Waters' style.

"We think it's a friendly atmosphere. I just wanted a place where I could exhibit my work by itself," said Waters.

Several of the works featured at this show came from a cruise Waters took to the Caribbean late this summer with McGehee Cruise & Vacations' "Art of Cruising" package. Voyagers sailed from New Orleans on the Carnival Conquest and participated in five separate three-hour sessions, including time for group and individual painting. Stops included Cozumel and Jamaica, where Waters executed five paintings and five watercolor drawings during his 15-member classes.
