COLUMBUS -- The nursing profession is locked in a dilemma that seems to defy the laws of supply and demand. There is a current nationwide shortage of nurses that has reached historical proportions. And with more and more Baby Boomers demanding more and more health cares services in the future and the need to replace nurses as they retire or otherwise leave the field, tomorrow's supply of nurses is even more of at concern for the health care industry.

Yet, at the same time nursing schools across Mississippi and the nation are watching their waiting lists grow, unable to meet student demand. Why? The requirement that nursing schools keep a low student-to-instructor ratio, as well as a small, dwindling pool of available and qualified nursing instructors.
