Mississippi-based fitness specialists Dr. Joyce Yates and Amanda Conrad are hoping to shape up the business community with their new book, "Simple Fitness For Your Body, Mind, and Spirit," published last month by Brandon-based Quail Ridge Press.
"When employees adopt a healthier life plan, sickness and absenteeism figures decrease," said Yates, an associate professor at Mississippi University for Women who has taught health and physical education for more than 20 years, and MUW coordinator of graduate studies in the division of health and kinesiology. "'Simple Fitness' promotes complete physical, mental and social well-being. This sense of wellness can only be incorporated in organizations that provide the environment that welcomes this set of principles in its daily operation. In other words, the employer focuses on the wellness of the employee not only for better productivity in workplace, but to promote the overall positive health of the individual.
