Ben Rinker dreamed about playing college ball for a long time.

It will come true - although Rinker won't be having the kind of ball he once envisioned.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound senior offensive tackle from Mid- Suburban West tri-champion Barrington made a verbal commitment to accept a scholarship to Northwestern.

Not bad for a basketball lifer who rarely played any football at all until last season.

"It's pretty crazy - absolutely amazing," said Rinker, who was recruited by the Wildcats to play tight end. "I couldn't be more excited.
