William E. Anderson, former Indianapolis Star reporter, died July 8 at age 77. He and reporter Richard E. Cady helped the newspaper win a Pulitzer Prize in 1974 with a series that exposed police corruption. The two became part of journalism lore when they were indicted and charged with conspiring to bribe a police officer--charges that were later dropped. Their Pulitzer Prize winning series eventually led to changes in the leadership at the Marion County prosecutor's office and Indianapolis Police Department. In 1995, Anderson was inducted into the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame. His father was a printer for the Star, and Anderson began there as a copy messenger in 1950, soon...
