In five years, perhaps we'll look back on last weekend as a milestone in the evolution of the Oregon softball program, a turning point with an unexpected impact.

On Saturday, a throng of more than 1,000 fans watched the feisty Ducks take on No. 1 Arizona; given the bad sight lines in the Howe Field stands caused by the errantly designed dugouts, it was realistically a standing-room-only crowd.

Oregon lost that game, but still almost 800 fans were there Sunday, when the Ducks defeated the Wildcats, 1-0, on Ashley Richards' walk-off homer in the eighth.
