JACKSON -- Downtown denizens have a new venue for buying Broad Street Bakery's signature artisan bread.

Just one year after Mangia Bene Inc., the Jackson restaurant group that manages Bravo! Italian Restaurant & Bar and Broad Street Baking Company, opened Broad Street Express in the old Krystal building on the corner of President and Capitol streets, the company is expanding with the opening of Broad Street Downtown at 111 East Capitol Street in downtown Jackson.

Broad Street Downtown is scheduled to open this week in the first floor of the former Merrill Lynch building, managed by Parkway Properties.

"This has just been a dream, an extraordinary opportunity," said Jeff Good, managing partner for Mangia Bene.

When law firm Phelps Dunbar agreed to take a long-term lease for the top two floors in the building formerly occupied by SunCom, Parkway Properties planned a complete remodel of the facility and asked Broad Street Bakery to partner with them on ground floor renovations.
