Every morning, office workers at San Diego companies, from the smallest to the largest, turn on their computers to deal with the unpleasant task of clearing their e-mail in-boxes of spam.

For many, it's a task that requires ever-increasing amounts of time.

"I'd say that the amount of spam we've been getting has quadrupled over the last six months," said Cecilia Gonzalez, CEO for BCA Search, a local executive search firm.

Gonzalez said the amount of spam her consultants receive daily averages from 25 to more than 100 messages. Besides the wasted time, dealing with spam makes many people cringe.
