Like most companies, Pacific Ink, Inc., a local Internet-based company, gets slammed with unsolicited e-mails hawking everything from get-rich-quick schemes to pornography.

Pacific Ink, a Scripps Ranch ink cartridge supplier, receives more than 100 so-called spam messages a day, said company co-owner Jaime Mautz.

Wading through those unwanted e-mails irritates Mautz and other Pacific Ink staffers. More importantly, the messages raise real concerns for Pacific Ink and other marketers who rely on permission-based e-mail to communicate with customers about orders and product promotions.

Patrons' hatred of spam is starting to translate to an overall dislike of e-marketing, Mautz said. Pacific Ink owns no store. It relies on the Internet and e-based communications.
