Gardeners aren't the only ones thinking about seeds this time of year.

Believe it or not, the Class AA baseball sectional seeding meeting takes place on Monday and coaches can't help but be anxious to learn which seed their teams will get for the upcoming state tournament.

Warren coach Dar Townsend is among the most excited.

His team has put together a phenomenal season so far and could be on the brink of its best season.

The Blue Devils are currently 16-4 and undefeated (4-0) in North Suburban Lake Division play.

But they've gone the last decade without having won a conference title. And they've won just two regional titles since 1973.

With a solid lineup and star pitchers Scott Shaw and Jacob Patrick on the mound, Warren is in its best position in years to end its title draught.

The Blue Devils, along with Lake Forest, Libertyville and Carmel, would appear to be the favorites for the coveted top four seeds

Stevenson again hosts the sectional and coaches will meet to rank the 18 schools in the complex - based on record, strength of schedule and quality of personnel. The top four seeds will then be separated into different regionals.

"It's exciting to think about where we are and the way things could work out (for the tournament,)" Townsend said. "But we still have some tough games left before then."...
