They are role models, confidantes and lifelong learners, patient optimists working to change the world one child at a time.

They are teachers - and now it's their turn to shine.

Thirty-seven teachers, administrators and education support staff will be honored tonight at the annual Kane County Educator of the Year Awards banquet.

Julie Vallejo, associate superintendent for the Regional Office of Education, said she was proud the office received so many nominations.

"I think it shows the enthusiasm that's out in our schools to recognize outstanding individuals," she said. "It's indicative of the great things that are going on in our schools today."
