Steel mills reported minor damage, and steel distributors cited major inconvenience, from the Aug. 14 blackout that left 50 million people in the dark in the Northeastern U.S. and Ontario.

U.S. Steel Corp. began to restart steel making operations Aug. 18 at its Great Lakes Works in Ecorse, Mich., which was idled fur most of four days. Fred Harnack, Great Lakes Works general manager, said he expected all operations to return to normal levels by the end of the week.

The Great Lakes division began limited production in its coking, cold-rolling and finishing operations on Aug. 17.

International Steel Group's Cleveland Works was down four days, and some nozzles on the blast furnace...
