Every spring baseball coaches yearn for younger, fitter versions of themselves to steer the ship from the field.

They want the player who arrives first and leaves last, who revels in the wins and takes the losses harder than he should. They seek the guy who takes pride in every act on the ballfield, from hitting to pitching to defense to field maintenance.

They crave someone who can motivate, inspire and instill a love for the game in others.

In other words, they want Ryan Priola.

St. Charles East coach Mark Foulkes has that luxury, and he's grateful for it.
