For most of the schools in the Geneva district, spring signals walkathon time, and raising money for charities.

Harrison Street Elementary School will be walking today in a program called "Miles for Molly" in honor of Molly Ott, the student there who died of a heart condition this school year.

Pledges will go to create a reading mural at the school in her honor and to the Geneva Community Chest. Students, expected to be accompanied by older students in the district who are friends with Ott's siblings, will do the 3-mile walk from Harrison this afternoon.

Western Avenue School will have its seventh annual Abbee's Walkathon on Monday. So far, 150 kindergarten through fifth-grade students have registered to participate. Money they raise will go to the Geneva Community Chest, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and the Sekemisa Primary School in South Africa.

The children will leave Western Avenue School at about 2:30 on Monday.
