Article Excerpt Pent-up demand for travel has turned out to be a silver lining around the clouds that hovered over San Diego's lodging industry earlier this year.
Since the June gloom cleared, the industry has been on a roll.
For six consecutive weeks, San Diego County has led the nation in hotel occupancy. During the week ended Aug. 16--the latest information available--San Diego hotels had an occupancy rate of 88.9 percent, up 4.3 percent compared to the like week last year, and the highest in the country, according to Smith Travel Research. The Hendersonville, Tenn. firm independently tracks the top hotel markets across the country.
Honolulu ran a close second with a hotel occupancy rate of 88.4 percent, followed by Norfolk, Va., Anaheim and Seattle, which were all around 86 percent.
For the last 28 days, San Diego's average hotel occupancy rate has been 91 percent. None of the other top 25...
