The Bridal Mansion in Lisle unites something old with something new. In October, the business will begin its 30th year.

"Pauline Arnold started the business by making all the wedding gowns herself," store manager Jane Skarosi said. "She was a designer and seamstress from England."

Arnold used the front section of her home as a showroom with a single fitting room that doubled as storage for her 20 sample dresses. She lived in the back of the store with her husband.

Skarosi said the house at 4605 Main St. is one of the oldest structures in Lisle.

"Originally it was a one-floor farmhouse sitting on a big farm," she said. "Additions included the upstairs, the front and rear sections and the porch."
