Contrary to popular belief, pregnancy does not necessarily affect cognition. Researchers at the University of Sunderland (England) examined the mental skills of 29 English women--15 of them pregnant--using a series of memory and attention tests. The tests demonstrated no difference in the cognitive abilities of the pregnant and non-pregnant participants.
