COOS BAY - Here we go again.

For the sixth time in 61 years, the cities of Coos Bay and North Bend will decide whether to merge. The new moniker would be "Coos Bay-North Bend."

The last five times, Coos Bay voters approved the measure. The last five times, North Bend residents trounced the idea.

And if the controversy surrounding the latest attempt is any indication, this one will be every bit as difficult to sell.

Not much has changed, it appears, since the last time the two cities voted on merging in 1983. An ardent group of opponents remains ardently opposed, and Coos Bay leaders don't see that it makes any sense to remain apart, given that the two cities are...
