Lisa Kirkpatrick reel the greatest challenge of her career right after she finished college--managing 12 group homes for the mentally disabled.

"Being the youngest administrator for the Texas region, my responsibility was to oversee the release of three homes on vendor hold from the state and improve financial performance," she said. "I learned that to gain truest from the staff, you must talk less and listen more, make decisions and act on those decisions. I believed that you didn't request staff to perform tasks that you were not willing to undertake. Also, engaging the employees to make decisions mad supporting them in those decisions benefits the organization.

"After a year and a half, our team had improved financial performance and had three homes surveyed with zero deficiencies. Two of those homes were the same homes...
