JACKSON -- In a major development coup for the Capital City's downtown, and the largest private historic restoration project in Mississippi, Entergy Mississippi announced earlier this month it partnered with Duckworth Realty to return the building the utility has called home for more than 70 years to its original splendor.

Community leaders have revered the pending transformation of the Electric Building, located at 308 East Pearl Street, as a step in the right direction for boosting revitalization efforts in downtown Jackson. The $14.8 million plan, financed in part by Trustmark National Bank, calls for office space, luxury apartments, restaurants and retail stores in the 10-story, 115,000 square foot building.

"I believe the Electric Building project is a real stepping-stone for what will happen next, the catalyst for other projects," said Ted Duckworth, president and managing broker of Duckworth Realty. Power of collaborative effort

The City of Jackson, Hinds County and Johnson Bailey Henderson McNeel (JBHM) Architects also collaborated on the project, which will house upscale corporate clients, including JBHM and Entergy Mississippi.

"This new proposal is the best of bothworlds for us," said Entergy Mississippi CEO Carolyn Shanks. "The Electric Building will realize its full potential and we'll be able to remain in the building that has served us since 1930."

Mayor Harvey Johnson Jr., calledEntergy's and Duckworth Realty's commitment to the Jackson community, and particularly to the downtown area, "a fine example ... of forming partnerships to aid in the preservation and revitalization of downtown."...
