COLLINSVILLE -- This community seven miles north of Meridian would be the fast place you'd look for the official gourd supplier of Canada. And Ray Davis has sold gourds to customers in England, too, not to mention customers in every state of the union including Hawaii and Alaska.

And her comfortable home business isn't in Collinsville at all (she does get her mail there). It's on the outskirts of nearby Martin--Davis describes it as "in the backwoods of Lauderdale County." She's right, too.

But last year, her self-styled "Gourd Gracious" business sold almost $20000 worth of gourds to those far-flung satisfied customers. She estimates that 75% of those sales came from her Web site, but she also advertises in the semi-monthly Mississippi Market Bulletin and "The Gourd," the 36-page quarterly publication of the American Gourd Society.

'That's too much work'
