The day after the tragedy that took her daughter's life, Jean Ware tries to stay busy.

She can sit and talk for just a few moments, she says, at her North Barrington home.

Swallowing back emotion, Ware states simply that Monday is her birthday. She and her only child, Kelly McKinnell, were supposed to meet for dinner.

She didn't know where Kelly planned to take her to celebrate turning 52. But it would have been a colorful place in Chicago's Bucktown neighborhood, no doubt. A restaurant that Kelly - always trying new things - thought was trendy.

Instead, Ware is preparing for her 26-year-old daughter's memorial service.
