Legacy of Gandhi, King

The Indian ambassador praised the spiritual bonds between Mohandask Gandhi and Martin Luther King, as he opened a permanent exhibit on the Indian advocate of nonviolence in a museum built on the site of the assassination of the American civil rights leader.

"Gandhi and King joined India and the United States together through the bonds of shared suffering and struggle," Ambassador Lalit Mansingh said in a ceremony earlier this month at the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, Tenn.

King adopted Gandhi's tactics of nonviolent civil disobedience to advance the cause of black Americans, and Gandhi's disciples were pleased by King's success,...
