In a market once dominated by the need to expand, office design has switched gears in a slow economy to find ways to develop techniques to do more with less.

In some cases, companies have needed to cut costs without eliminating employees. One solution: Finding more efficient office layouts that still promote effective business.

Nearly 50 percent to 70 percent of new projects are requesting more efficient and functional consolidation designs, said Robert Formisano, president of Grosse Pointe-based Project Planning & Management Inc.
