Velma Harvey

REEDSPORT - The funeral will be held Aug. 2 for Velma Loree Harvey of Reedsport, who died July 23 of age-related causes. She was 83.

Harvey was born Jan. 17, 1920, in Gardiner to Lawrence and Pearl Stratton Leach.

She was a lifelong resident of Douglas and Coos counties, where she worked as a cook and owned restaurants.

Her interests included sewing, knitting, crocheting and quilting. She is remembered as a special person who had a kind word and a smile for everyone.

Survivors include six daughters, Dolores Canida and Jimalene Tillman, both of Albany, Shirley Jones and Carol Horn, both of Salem, Judy Shoop of Warrenton and Joy Reyes of Portland; two sons, Dave Lent of Redmond and Gary Lent of Lexington; twin brothers, Reuben Leach and Lawrence Leach; a sister, Margaret Smith; 31 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

Her husbands, Jim Lent, Wayne Lent and Earl Harvey, a daughter, Beverly, a son, Murle, and twin grandsons, Richard Mardock and Russell Mardock, died previously.

Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Dunes Memorial Chapel in Reedsport. Saturday's service will be at 2 p.m., also at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Reedsport Masonic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation, in care of the funeral home.
