Trade and Industry secretary Patricia Hewitt today announced new appointments to lead three Regional Development Agencies (RDA's).

In December, when the current Chairs' terms of office end, Richard Ellis will become RDA Chair in the East of England, Margaret Fay in the North East and Terry Hodgkinson in Yorkshire and the Humber.

Making the appointments, Ms Hewitt said: "RDAs are tackling head on the crucial issues which cause disparities within and between regions - jobs, skills and infrastructure. The new Chairs have a hugely important and exciting task ahead of them.

"These three new appointments bring a huge amount of business and civic experience to the challenge of boosting the productivity and wealth of their regions. I'm sure the new Chairs will build on the good work of their predecessors in delivering the economic strategies for their regions."

Richard Ellis (48) brings extensive experience of business to the role of Chair of the East of England Development Agency. Richard was Chief Executive of Kettle Foods and retains his links with the company as their Community Affairs Adviser.
