Dancers are resourceful--but they aren't used to getting something for nothing. As a result, many of you may overlook funds that can keep you on your toes in tough economic times. To help out, DANCE MAGAZINE compiled a list of dance scholarships. Some cover tuition and training at a specific college or university; others can be used for whatever the dancer chooses. Our list is extensive--but it's still just a start. If you don't find your dream program here, contact the school, festival, or organization directly to find out what help it might offer. There are also other sources to dig into. The Foundation Center, headquartered in Manhattan with branch offices and libraries in Atlanta, Cleveland, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C., provides grant and scholarship information to the public. Their resources can also be accessed online (fdncenter.org) for $9.95 a month. Another possibility is the U.S. Commission for Scholastic Assistance, which publishes state-by-state and national lists of college scholarships. Their national list sells for $39.50.
