...demonstrations staged inside court- or government-mandated no-protest zone, the sort found in several Canadian cities. On the other hand, however, recent events in Toronto suggest that, when it is a pro-choicer who breaks the law, the justice system's zeal is less readily apparent, even when the offence involves the use of violence.
The case involves a woman named Carol Anne Trueman, who walked out of a Toronto courtroom in late March after provincial court Judge Cathy Mocha handed her an absolute discharge for assault. Trueman had pepper-sprayed pro-life counsellor Robert Hinchey in a downtown Toronto medical clinic last August, injuring both Mr. Hinchey and the clinic's security guard.
