Roman Catholics (indeed any Christian) privileged to be granted an audience with Pope John Paul II would address him as "Your Holiness." Journalists seeking an interview with the founder and high priest of the Raelian cult, who goes by the single name "Rael," are also instructed to address him as "Your Holiness."

Coincidence? Hardly. Rael, whose headquarters near Valcourt, Que., is called "UFO Land," loathes the Roman Catholic Church, its pontiff, priests, practices and history. Rael claims to be Jesus' half-brother, offspring of a union between a woman and an alien. He tells his followers that space aliens cloned the first human beings.
