Last season, in an attempt to snap the Oregon volleyball program out of its 12-year-long funk, Ducks coach Carl Ferreira essentially scrapped everything he had done in his first three years and began again from scratch.
Coaching a 14-member team that included 12 freshmen and sophomores, Ferreira emphasized team building, hard work and fundamentals. Winning and losing weren't as important as improvement and progress. The payoff, he preached to his young club then, would come some time in the future.
On Monday, Ferreira declared the future to be now.
"Our players are ready to win," insisted Ferreira, while speaking during the team's media day at McArthur Court. "They understand the objectives of what it takes to win, and they understand the grind. Now, for the first time, their goals have winning in them in a very educated manner."
