The word going around the ballpark Sunday night was that the new kid wore a Rolex, and he was treating everyone to dinner.

As it turned out, both rumors were unfounded, even if it is true that Matt Bush can afford more than the average late-season call-up.

With a little fanfare and even more notoriety, Bush - the $3.15 million bonus baby as the top overall pick by the San Diego Padres in the 2004 amateur baseball draft - arrived at Civic Stadium on Sunday afternoon to play shortstop for the struggling Eugene Emeralds.

He didn't disappoint, going 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

Bush also started a pair of inning-ending double plays on defense and made a nifty catch of a broken-bat line drive as the Ems defeated Salem-Keizer 5-2 before 3,452 at Civic Stadium, ending a...
