Total assets as of Dec. 31 are used to rank this year's List of Credit Unions in San Diego.

Although last year's List ranked 22 of San Diego's credit unions, the San Diego Business Journal obtained information for 25 local credit unions for this year's List, with a total of 156 branches in the county--31 more branches than those reported on last year's List.

Holding strong at No. 1 is San Diego County Credit Union, with $2.1 billion in assets for the year ended Dec. 31. San Diego County CU figures are up 24 percent from 2001's $1.7 billion.

Lastyear's List was ranked on total assets as of March 31, 2002. Since last year's List, San Diego County CU has increased its number of members from 147,476 to 152,506 and the number of local employees from...
