Article Excerpt NATCHEZ -- Preparing a supersiteto lure a super project is high on the agenda for Southwest Mississippi Partnership (SMP) leaders.
"Currently every region of Mississippi, except ours, has at least one site for major impact projects," said Michael Ferdinand, SMP president and executive director of the Adams County Economic Development Authority in Natchez and former project manager/senior business consultant for the Mississippi Development Authority.
"It's vital that we identify such a site in the region so that the next Nissan could consider Southwest Mississippi a viable location," he said. "When one of our strategic partners, such as Entergy, receives a RFP (request-for-proposal) for a large project, typically the turnaround times are very short. If you do not have sites identified that you can readily submit, you do not get 'considered."
Established in 1991, SMP is a 10-county economic development organization encompassing Adams, Amite, Claiborne, Franklin, Jefferson, Lawrence, Lincoln, Pike, Walthall and Wilkinson counties.
