POPLARVILLE -- Once you get a taste for "Real Bread", it is hard to go back to the homogenized, pre-sliced mostly white flour bread offerings at the supermarket. That's why German baker Karl Mueller has fans who are willing to travel a good distance to purchase his four varieties of German bread: Vollkornbrot (dark multi-seed rye bread), Schwarzbrot (a sourdough rye black bread), Bayrisches Bauernbrot (Bavarian farmers bread made with rye and white flour) and Kartoffelbrot (potato bread).

Mueller is a native of Germany who worked as a captain in the German merchant marine before settling in New Orleans 30 years ago where he worked in the shipping business before retiring a few years ago.
