Mississippi Insurance Commissioner George Dale is the nation's longest-serving insurance commissioner having been in office for 28 years.

Dale, who is running for re-election this yeas, recently talked to the Mississippi Business Journal about a few of the major issues facing the insurance industry.

Mississippi Business Journal: Evidently some out-of-state companies are coming in and offering deals that are "too good to be true" on insurance. Are you seeing a problem with this?

George Dale: Our number of letters and inquiries from consumers has increased on programs they are being offered that are not insurance programs regulated by this department. Then when a person has a difficulty with a claim and we have to tell them it doesn't come under us, they get perturbed at us. Yesterday I wrote a letter to someone in the ERISA program, which is an act of the federal government that allows for businesses with a common thread to self-insure.
