In lieu of a pennant race, Eugene fans will have to settle for a home run race.

Colt Morton hit his 15th home run of the season to tie Yakima's Chris Carter for the Northwest League lead, but it was not nearly enough offense for the Emeralds as Salem-Keizer defeated Eugene 10-4 in front of 2,818 Saturday evening at Civic Stadium.

Eugene third baseman Lachlan Dale is third in the league with 14 home runs, and Boise's Ryan Harvey and Spokane's Travis Metcalf have 13 apiece.

"It's fun to keep track of it and fun to go back and forth with Lachlan," Morton said. "Neither one of us have hit one in a while so other guys caught up, but that is what happens. It makes it fun and competitive."
