It's been more than five years since Jesse Moore quit drawing a paycheck from the Indianapolis Black Chamber of Commerce, opting instead to temporarily guide the group on a volunteer basis.

Today, nothing much has changed. As the Black Chamber prepares to host its seventh annual awards luncheon May 13, Moore remains the anchor who has struggled to keep the minority group from drifting away.

"It's like we've been treading water the past few years," Moore said. "But I feel real good about where we are now."
