Matt Duryea hit a three-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to lead Marshfield to an 8-5 upset victory at Churchill in a Midwestern League baseball game Wednesday.

The Pirates improved to 3-10 in league play and knocked the Lancers (10-2) out of first place and into third.

Marshfield trailed 4-0 before taking a 5-4 lead in the fifth, only to have Churchill score one in the sixth to tie it. Cory Boosinger had two RBIs for the Lancers.

Zach Bird, Cody Newell and Shawn Peterson each had three hits to lead North Eugene to an 11-5 win over visiting Thurston that gave the Highlanders sole possession of first place in the Midwestern League.

Newell also had nine strikeouts in six innings to pick up the win. Bird and Neal Crum each had three RBIs for the Highlanders (11-1 Midwestern).
