Among the many plaques and photos that adorn the walls of Oregon coach Kathy Arendsen's office will soon be a memento she'll always treasure.
It'll be the 2003 Oregon softball poster, filled with signatures from the players and laminated for safekeeping.
More than this simply being Arendsen's first Ducks team, she wants to preserve the memory of a group of players who have surpassed expectations and brought success back to Oregon softball.
"This is a very special season, and I think in many ways we're a team of destiny," Arendsen said. "They're going to be a team we're going to talk about and compare other teams to for years to come.
"Teams in the future are going to be so sick of hearing about '03. They'll say, `Good Lord, coach, they weren't saints. They were just ballplayers.' But every sport has that team that changed a program, and the '03 team will be that team for us."
No. 18 Oregon, a unanimous last-place selection in the Pac-10 Conference preseason coaches' poll, is in fourth place with three games to play, and likely to receive an NCAA Regional bid when the 64 teams are announced Sunday.
